Bhubaneswar: Congress MLA Chandrasekhar Majhi and BJD legislator Kishore Tarai courted a controversy Wednesday as they engaged in a fight with security personnel at Gate No 1 of state Secretariat here over restricted entry.
Kotpad legislator Majhi attempted entry to the Secretariat through this gate on a scooter (Honda Activa), while rules permitted only four-wheel vehicles to be driven in via this gate. Pedestrians are also not allowed in via this gate during day time.
Security personnel alleged that Majhi confronted them and forcibly tried entry into the Secretariat through the gate. There, they said, were other gates through which two-wheel riders could enter, but Majhi insisted on entry through this gate. After creating a scene, the legislator entered the premises through another gate, said Secretariat security.
Majhi said he was not aware of the restrictions. He had a “minor tiff” with the security personnel as he felt “embarrassed”over denial of entry to him. ‘‘I felt insulted when I was intercepted by security personnel. I didn’t misbehave with them, it was just a verbal tiff,’’ said he. A security man alleged that the MLA tried to forcibly enter the gate twice despite appeals from security staff.
Similarly, Kendrapara MLA Tarai also allegedly misbehaved with security personnel when they did not allow Tarai to exit through the gate by walking. One of the security personnel alleged that the MLA tried to beat him. “Do you know me? I am MLA,” he shouted, and also raised his hand to beat the security personnel, a security official said. Without listening to the security officials, Tarai forcibly exited by the same gate though pedestrians too are not allowed passage through this gate.
