Badabil: Two men died in separate incidents after being swept away by rainwater in Badabil area of Kendujhar district with heavy rain lashing the area since Sunday evening.

The deceased were identified as Sukumar Munda, 40, of Raika village and Jiten Samanta, 38, of Baruhating area.

Sukumar was swept away by a sudden flow of rainwater while crossing a village road in Raika under Serenda panchayat, while Jiten reportedly drowned in a drain at Thakurani within Badabil municipality area.

Heavy rain disrupted normal life in Badabil, with several roads, including the main market area, inundated. Water accumulated after drains along the main roads and inside the market became clogged, hampering drainage. The downpour also caused rivers and drains in the area to swell.

Both men went missing Sunday evening and their families searched for them throughout the night. Their bodies were found by the roadside Monday morning, according to police. Badabil police recovered the bodies and registered separate unnatural death cases. Investigation is underway.
