Bhubaneswar: Opposition members created ruckus over paddy procurement in the Odisha Assembly, Saturday, forcing Speaker Speaker Surya Narayan Patro to adjourn the House till 11:30 am.
As the House assembled for the second day of the second phase of the Budget Session, the members of BJP and Congress rushed to the well and created a commotion over paddy procurement issue. The saffron party members attempted to climb the podium of the Speaker as well.
At the same time, government chief whip Pramila Mallick demanded an apology from BJP MLA Subash Panigrahi for attempting suicide in the House. Panigrahi had attempted to drink sanitiser in the House over paddy procurement issue, Friday.
Finding it extremely difficult to run the House, the Speaker adjourned the house till 11:30 am.
Notably, the first day of the second phase of the Budget Session was entirely washed away over paddy procurement. Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare and Cooperation Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain had also made a statement in the House about the paddy procurement status in the state.
