Bhubaneswar: Despite spending lakhs of rupees to study in different educational institutions in Bhubaneswar, students have alleged that the college authorities are delaying examinations for about two to three months in every semester and issuing certificates according to their will.
The students said while the duration of management courses is of two years, due to lack of concern of college authorities, the exams are getting delayed and the students are losing a year waiting for results and certificates.
According to sources, about 10 private management colleges in the city are affiliated to the Utkal University. Students here enrol in different courses such as PMIR, MSW and MBA programmes.
But due to inordinate delays in semester exams, the students fail to go for further studies and even fail to get a job, as they have to wait for about four to five months to get the course certificate even after completing it.
As per UGC guidelines, in the 2015-17 academic year, colleges should conclude the exams by April and distribute the certificates by July. However, violating the rules, some colleges conducted final semester exams in October of the present academic year and have also not issued certificates so far, alleged a student.
The alleged apathy of college authorities has resulted in a huge financial loss for many students, who thought of a bright career ahead. After completing post graduation, many students were aspiring to get admission in MPhil and PhD courses, but are still awaiting their certificates.
When asked, an official from a management college said, “The varsity authorities are paying less attention towards affiliated institutions. They delay in providing question papers on time.” The university sends the question papers after it concludes its own examinations, he added.
On being asked, Utkal University Vice-Chancellor Soumendra Mohan Patnaik denied any knowledge about the allegations and said, “I will look into the matter seriously and after having discussions with the affiliated colleges, necessary steps will be taken in this regard.”
Meanwhile, a student said that private institutions are playing with the future of students. The face-off between affiliated colleges and the university is ultimately affecting the students. It is also learnt that the students are planning to stage a demonstration in front of the State Assembly to bring the issue to the notice of lawmakers.
