Puri: There was shortage of vegetables in Srimandir kitchen Tuesday in view of closure of shops around the temple Monday. According to servitors, the traders had downed their shutters in protest against the government plan to widen roads around the temple ahead of Nabakalebar. The locals were inconvenienced as Laxmi Bazar was also shut down. A rally led by ‘Srikhetra Jivika Surakhya Mancha’ was taken out from Dolamandap Street to the Collectorate. The Mancha alleged land acquisition efforts to widen the road would render many businessmen jobless. The administration should take steps to rehabilitate traders before taking up the project, they alleged. PNN
