A viral video from a local crematorium has sparked outrage online after showing a girl in a sari dancing in front of a burning pyre. The footage, reportedly shot to create a social media reel, shows the girl posing and performing dance steps as flames consume the wood behind her.
The clip, shared on X by user @ShoneeKapoor, has been viewed by thousands of times and has drawn widespread condemnation. Users called the act deeply insensitive toward the deceased and their grieving families. “Now, in the race to make reels, people are forgetting shame and place,” one comment read.
Critics say the incident reflects a disturbing trend of chasing online trends without regard for cultural or moral boundaries. While reels were once filmed at weddings, birthdays, malls or scenic spots, users noted that some creators are now taking cameras into cremation grounds.
“This is not content creation, it’s a complete disregard for humanity,” one user posted. Others called for action against the woman, with comments ranging from “She should be ashamed” to “Hand her over to the police.”
Many compared the scene to a bhajan performance, except instead of devotional songs, there were dance moves, and instead of incense, ashes from the pyre filled the air.
Social media users say the episode underscores a troubling shift in online behaviour, where the pursuit of views has overtaken respect for solemn spaces and occasions.
