Bhadrak: A day after a video featuring a youth being mercilessly beaten by a miscreant went viral his body was recovered from a bush at Bagamara Adibasi Sahi under Rural police limits in Bhadrak district. The youth has been identified as Katia Murmu.
In the video that went viral Thursday night, Katia was seen being beaten mercilessly by a miscreant with a heavy stick. Initially Katia tried to defend himself, but with the blows landing heavily on his head and body, he collapsed.
Upon seeing the video, Katia’s family members identified him but could not recognise the place where the incident took place. So they lodged an FIR with the Bhadrak Rural police station Thursday night and alleged that Katia had been murdered.
Friday morning some villagers spotted Katia’s body in a bush. They immediately conveyed the news to Katia’s family members who in turn informed the police.
Later, police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. “We are examining the video and efforts are on to trace the accused spotted in the video,” a police official said.
Katia’s family members and other villagers said that the victim could have been saved had the police launched a search operation for him on the basis of the video Thursday night itself.
