Patna: A villager was killed while two others were rendered critical after they were struck by lightning at two places in Jamunapashi village under Patna block in Keonjhar district Monday evening. The deceased was Duryodhana Barik (45). The injured in the same incident was Silimani Sardha (20) of the same village.
The other injured was a nine-year-old girl Sita Majhi of neighbouring Rengalbeda village. The minor was struck by lightning while she was playing near her house’s courtyard. Family members rushed her to the Patna community health centre (CHC). Later, she was shifted to the district headquarters hospital for further treatment and her condition remains critical.
In the second case, the incident occurred while Duryodhana went to buy groceries in a local market. The village was lashed by heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty surface winds and lightning. Duryodhana was struck by lightning alongside the grocery shop owner Silimani. Silimani was left in a critical state.
Both of them were rushed to the district headquarters hospital. Doctors declared Duryodhana brought dead.
