Nayagarh: In a bizarre incident, locals of Duda village under Banigocha police limits in Nayagarh district took law in their hands and thrashed a man and his two sons in a ‘kangaroo court’ on murder charges after police failed to crack the case.
Interestingly, the man’s elder son confessed to the crime after the trashing. Even as the incident occurred May 18, it came to the fore Monday. As police failed to crack the case, angry locals, who suspected the family was responsible for the murder, overpowered the man and his two sons, tied them to a pole and thrashed them following which one of the accused confessed to the crime.
According to sources, a youth – Jadab Nayak, of the village had been killed May 18. After even three days, the police could not arrest the culprit. Villagers suspected Durjodhana Nayak and his two sons Brahmadi Nayak and Purnadi Nayak to be behind the murder.
When they tied the three to a pole and beat them at a ‘kangaroo court’ Brahmadi confessed before the villagers that he killed Jadab. Everyone was taken aback after Brahmadi confessed to the crime as even his father and family members were unaware of the incident.
Later, Banigocha police rescued the three and took them for interrogation.
“We pacified the villagers and rescued the three. On the other hand, wife of Duryodhana has filed a complaint against the villagers and necessary actions will be taken against them. The son, who is accused in the murder case, has been detained and a probe is on.” Priya Ranjan Nayak, IIC Banigocha said.
