A chaotic scene unfolded at Kashmiri Gate Metro station, and it had nothing to do with rush-hour commuters. A viral video, captured by a bystander on a mobile phone, shows two packs of stray dogs locked in a fierce brawl right at the foot of a stationary escalator inside the station.
The timing of the video is striking, coming just hours after the Supreme Court reserved its order on an interim plea to stay its August 11 directions regarding stray dogs in Delhi-NCR.

The footage begins with frantic barking echoing through the concourse as a black dog squares off against three others perched higher up on the escalator’s steps. Teeth bared and tempers flaring, the animals gnaw and snap at each other, ignoring the startled onlookers. The escalator, frozen in place, becomes an unlikely battlefield — a “ladder to nowhere” in the middle of Delhi’s transit hub.

Within hours of the video hitting social media, the comment section went berserk. Users traded jokes, concerns, and heated opinions.
One user wrote, “Shopping before going to shelter”
Another quipped, “Dog lovers: Escalators are a dog’s natural habitat, we can’t kick them out of here!”
On August 11, a two-judge bench had ordered authorities to begin picking up stray dogs from all localities “at the earliest” and move them to newly created shelters or pounds. The court mandated that such shelters be established within eight weeks and stressed that stray dogs should no longer be released into streets, colonies, or other public areas.
The suo motu proceedings were triggered July 28, following reports of rising stray dog bites and rabies cases, especially among children in the national capital. With videos like this one sparking fresh debate, the issue of managing Delhi’s stray population has once again come under the spotlight — proving that when it comes to the capital’s dog problem, the fur is still flying.
