A new Mahindra Thar was smashed to pieces in a bizarre accident at a Mahindra showroom in Delhi’s Nirman Vihar. The SUV, which had not yet been delivered, was badly damaged after it fell from the first floor of the showroom.
According to reports, before taking possession of the vehicle, the owner decided to perform a ‘Nimbu ritual’, a practice where you crush a lemon under a vehicle’s tyre to ward off evil eye. During the ceremony, the car plunged directly from the first floor of the showroom. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media. Fortunately, there was no major loss of life.

Maani Pawar, 29, had recently purchased the new Thar, worth Rs 27 lakh. Before taking the car on the road, he opted for a traditional ceremony on the first floor of the showroom. As part of the ritual, a lemon was to be placed under the wheels, and the car was to be driven forward slowly. However, during the ritual, Pawar reportedly pressed the accelerator by mistake, causing the vehicle to surge forward at high speed.
The Thar suddenly shot ahead, smashed through a glass wall, and fell one and a half floors down onto the pavement. A showroom employee was also sitting inside the SUV when it fell. Video footage shows the car turning upside down on the road.
As soon as the vehicle hit the ground, its airbags deployed, keeping both occupants safe. They were immediately taken to a nearby hospital and discharged after receiving first aid. No one suffered serious injuries in the incident, and no complaint has been filed so far.
