Bhubaneswar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level meeting October 1 to address the long-pending Mahanadi water-sharing dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
The meeting will bring together the Chief Ministers of the two states in an effort to work out an amicable and sustainable water-sharing arrangement. The talks were confirmed by Advocate General Pitambar Acharya.
Discussions are underway to formulate a viable sharing formula with the mediation and technical support of the Central Water Commission (CWC). The dispute, which centres on upstream construction and regulation of Mahanadi waters, has remained a major point of contention between the neighbouring states.
