Nabarangpur/Jharigaon: In a tragic incident, two schoolgirls of Kumudaguda village under Jharigaon block in Nabarangpur district drowned in a pond Monday.
The deceased were identified as Champa Santa, daughter of Jagannath Santa, and Chaitanya Santa’s daughter Nila Santa. Champa was a Class III student, while Neela was studying in Class V in Bhatikote Ashram School. The two came home during lunch hours, but didn’t return to school.
According to family sources, they went for a bath in a pond in the middle of an agriculture land. Unaware of the depth of the water, they entered into the pond but couldn’t come out. As the place is far away from the village, no one could get an inkling of the incident.
One of the villagers spotted the bodies when he went to bathe after finishing farming activities and alerted the family members.
While the bodies were fished out with the help of villagers, Jharigaon police reached the spot and began a probe.
