Bhubaneswar: A hapless and dejected pregnant widow, Mamina Madhusmita Sahoo (38), Saturday approached the Odisha Human Rights Council (OHRC) for justice after the police refused to come to her help.
Her husband, Dillip Kumar Nayak, had committed suicide in a store house of the Raj Bhawan here October, last year. Though she went to the police to probe Nayak’s unnatural death, the law
enforcing authorities refused to oblige. Finding no option, she wrote to the OHRC about the police negligence.
The widow is a resident of Nilakntheswar Marg in Barmunda. Her husband, a contractor, was engaged in the construction of an indoor stadium in the city when he took the drastic step. He committed suicide allegedly due to threats and mental torture by unknown miscreants.
Cops had registered an unnatural death case (173/2017) based upon the written complaint submitted by his supervisor October 22, 2017. She also filed a complaint with the Capital police in this regard on the following day. However, she is yet to get the copy of her FIR.
Following repeated requests, police recently returned the ceased diary, mobile phone, purse and the letters written by her husband. From Nayak’s diary she came to know that some persons were allegedly coerced her husband to end his life, Madhusmita alleged in her
complaint.
She also claimed to have a video clip as proof of the involvement unknown persons.
Earlier, she had also apprised Director General of Police along with Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner and the State Women’s Commission about the police negligence in the case. She, subsequently, appealed the OHRC to instruct the police to arrest the culprits responsible for her husband’s death.
