Kalimela: Police arrested Wednesday witch doctor Kasa Beti, who claims he can cure diseases by biting different parts of a patient’s body. After he carried out the same mode of bizarre treatment on a woman suffering from high fever at UrmaGuda village under Telarai panchayat under Kalimela block in Malkangiri district, police nabbed him.
Sources said, Dule Beti, 38, had been suffering from high fever for the past three days. Her family members, instead of taking her to a hospital, took her to Kasa some days ago.
The witch doctor muttered some words as if he was chanting mantras with healing powers. Then he gave some liquid potion to the patient to drink. What he did next left all perplexed. He started biting her face, neck and back.
The family members did not oppose the act as they wanted the woman to be cured.
Later, when the patient did not show any sign of recovery, family members lodged a complaint with MV-79 police station Tuesday.
After registering a case, a police team went to Kasa’s house but he gave them the slip. However, Wednesday morning, the police received information that Kasa was present at his house, and arrested him. He was booked under various relevant sections and produced in a court.
