Nabarangpur: A woman was beaten up by her family members who branded her a witch at Pateiguda village under Town police limits here Monday night.
The victim Gomati Majhi of Dangeriguda village has accused her husband Tukaram Majhi, mother-in-law Madana Majhi, father-in-law Hari Majhi and sister-in-law Seema Majhi of inflicting physical and mental torture on her for the last three years on the suspicion of being a ‘witch’.
Their brutality crossed all limits Tuesday night when they dragged the victim by her hair and thrashed her mercilessly with a wooden plank, leaving her unconscious.
On being informed, the woman’s father rescued and rushed her to a hospital.
As per the police complaint, the victim was married to Tukaram for the last 10 years. She has levelled allegation of torture against her husband and in-laws.
Terming the nature of the crime as a serious one, IIC of Nabarangpur Town police station, Tariq Ahmed Khan said, “Stringent action would be taken against the guilty.”
