Daringbadi: Failing to get ambulance service, a woman delivered a baby boy half-way through the way in an auto-rickshaw while being taken to the local community health centre (CHC) here in Kandhamal district Friday morning.
Locals are upset with the poor state of ambulance services in the tribal-dominated Daringbadi block.
Sumitra Pradhan experienced labour pain early in the morning Friday. Family members tried to contact an ambulance, but to no avail. Then, her husband hired an auto-rickshaw and took her to the CHC.
However, her labour pain increased mid-way through the journey. She delivered a baby boy inside the vehicle. Later, the new-born and the mother were admitted to the Simanbadi primary health centre (PHC).
