Bhadrak: A woman died after she accidentally consumed pesticide mistaking it for cough syrup at Manoharpur village under Bhandaripokhari police limits in Bhadrak district Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Laxmi, wife of Rabi Munda.
According to reports, Laxmi was suffering from whooping cough. In a bid to treat the disease, she went to drink cough syrup. However, instead of drinking the cough syrup, she consumed the pesticide as both the bottles were kept on the same shelf side by side.
Initially, she was admitted to Bhandaripokhari community health centre (CHC). After preliminary treatment she was shifted to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital as her condition deteriorated. However, she died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death in this connection and sent the body for post-mortem.
