Bhubaneswar: Even though a week has elapsed to the police registering a complaint lodged by a woman alleging rape by a godman of Jajpur, the police are yet to take action in this regard.
The woman, a resident of Tamando , alleged that the godman hailing from Panikoili in Jajpur district had raped her January 27, while one of his followers recorded it in his mobile phone. The accused persons have also threatened her of dire consequences and making the video viral, if she reveals the matter to anyone. Expressing dismay over police inaction, the victim along with some social activists here Wednesday came to apprise the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of the matter at his office. However, they failed to meet him. Meanwhile, Additional DCP PD Mohapatra has assured the complainant of stern action against the accused godman and his associate.
According to the FIR filed with the Mahila police February 1, the complainant has stated that as her family was going through difficulties, she went to the ashram, to seek blessings from the baba. The complainant has also alleged that due to police inaction, the baba and his associate are threatening her to make the video viral.
