Jharsuguda, Feb 19: In a tragic incident, a 20-year-old youth allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train here after attending his lover’s last rites ritual. On being informed by locals, Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel seized the body of Deepak Kumar of Kutabaga village near Brajrajnagar from the Railway tracks near Balijori here Thursday morning.
After investigation, GRP personnel identified the body after they found a voter identity card from the spot and informed Deepak’s family members. Quoting family members, GRP sources said Deepak left his house on a bike Wednesday afternoon. Deepak informed his family members he was going to attend the last rites ritual of his friend who died in a road mishap recently.
Two hours later, Deepak sent a message to his younger brother stating that he was committing suicide. Deepak also informed his brother about the suicide note, which he had written, in his wallet and asked him to hand it over to police after his death.
After receiving the SMS, his family members made frantic efforts to search for him, but in vain. After his family members failed to locate him, they lodged a complaint of missing at Rampur police station.
After receiving the complaint, police started an investigation. However, his body was found from the Railway tracks near Balijori here, GRP sources said.
GRP personnel also seized a driving licence, 2 ATM cards and cash of Rs 120 from Deepak’s wallet. However, GRP personnel have not recovered any suicide note from his wallet, said Deepak’s uncle. Sources said GRP personnel and Brajrajnagar police station officials are investigating the matter. The body was handed over to the bereaved family after post-mortem.
Family sources said Deepak, who unsuccessfully attended Plus II examination from Brajrajnagar DAV last year, was in a relationship with a 24-year-old girl after they came to know each other on a social networking site. The girl, however, died in a road mishap near Motanga in Dhenkanal while she was driving a car to reach her house in Jharsuguda from Bhubaneswar a few days ago. After the girl’s body reached here Tuesday for last rites, Deepak maintained unusual silence. Family members said he was in deep shock following her death and lost his mental balance. He might have killed himself after being unable to cope with his lover’s death, sources added.
