Nimapara, April 18: An engineering student lost a chance to attend an interview for the post of junior engineer (JE) due to alleged negligence by the department of posts.
Smrutiranjan Sahu of Pateli, which comes under Nahantara postal circle, had applied for the post of JE at Paradip Port Trust (PPT).
Sahu’s application was shortlisted for the job and PPT authorities had called him for an interview scheduled for March 31.
Sources said the PPT had despatched the interview letter through speed post March 25. However, Sahu received the call letter April 11, 17 days after the letter was despatched.
Sahu expressed disappointment as to how a letter took 17 days to reach Nimapara from Paradip. Sahu squarely put the blame on the postal department which has affected his career.
Sub-divisional postal inspector (Nimapara) Khirod Kumar Das and postmaster Narottam Majhi said, “The letter reached Nimapara post office April 10 and was despatched to Nahantara post office on the same day. Nahantara post office delivered the letter to Sahu April 11. There was no delay on our part,” they added.
