Sohela: A 25-year-old youth, Ashish Kumar Gupta, shot himself to death over unknown reasons in Sohela area of Bargarh district Friday. His mother spotted the body on the rooftop of the house and alerted the police.
The police seized a pistol, a mobile phone and a cartridge from the spot where his body was lying. A case of unnatural death was registered and the body sent for post-mortem.
According to sources, Ashish was the younger son of Ramakant Gupta, a driver. The deceased was jobless and had several criminal cases against him.
As usual, he wandered around in the colony and returned home during lunch Friday. Later, he went to the rooftop and took the extreme step. When his mother went in search of him for lunch she found him lying dead. Immediately, the police were informed.
Sources said, the incident happened at a time when a function was going on in the house. A groom had come to see Ashish’s elder sister for marriage. So, the family members were not able to hear the gunshots.
Preliminary investigation revealed Ashish had attempted suicide by consuming poison. “We are going through his mobile phone to check the call details”, police said.
