post news network, Bhubaneswar, July 4: A drama based on the devotion of bhakta Prahlada was organised at the Bhanja Kala Mandap, as a part of the four-day ‘Loknatya Mahotsav’ that kicked off Saturday evening.
The four-day drama festival has been organised by the Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi, a part of the state department of culture. A number of people flocked to the auditorium to watch the play based on the Carnatic raga style.
A theatre group from the Bidipur Sasan village, Ganjam, RUPA (Rural Upliftment of People’s Association), staged the Saturday’s drama, which was based on the life of Prahlada, who assassinated king Hiranyakashyap at the end of the drama. Around 25 artists from the theatre group performed in the play.
“The drama is all about the life of Prahlada who was a staunch devotee of Lord Vishnu. Through the drama we tried to depict the different scenes from the mythology. We also tried at the end of the drama to portray a climactic scene showing the assassination of Hiranyakashyap. The life of Prahlada was an inspiration for the people. We tried our best to depict some of the inspiring scenes from his life,” says Simanchal Das, director of the drama.
