Digapahandi: A person died while over 25 others suffered injuries after a mini-bus overturned near Taptapani ghat under Sanakhemundi block in Ganjam district Tuesday.
The incident occurred while the people were returning after an engagement ceremony. The mishap took place following a brake fail, locals said.
Raghunath Gouda alias Raghua of Gadasamantarapur under Digapahandi block died. Among the injured, the condition of 10 remained critical.
According to reports, the residents had gone to attend the engagement ceremony of Ranjan Gouda, son of Dhoba Gouda.
While returning, the bus skidded off the road and overturned after the driver lost control on the wheels. Fire brigade from Sanakhemundi, Mohana and Digapahandi reached the spot and rescued the injured.
The critically injured were shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. Police seized Raghua’s body and handed it over to family members after autopsy. A case was registered and a manhunt was launched to arrest the driver who is absconding after the incident.
