Malkangiri: Acting on a tip-off, police Saturday arrested two youths on the charge of abducting and raping a 15-year-old tribal girl in a forest near Erbanpali village under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri district.
Police then admitted the girl to Malkangiri district headquarters hospital (DHH) where her condition was stated to be critical.
The accused duo has been identified as Sama Madkami and Budura Madkami of Kadelmetla village.
According to the complainant, the girl was alone in her house in the absence of her family members. The two accused, riding a motorcycle, abducted the girl from her house and took her to a nearby forest where they took turns on her throughout the night.
Later, they fled leaving the girl in a helpless state in the forest. The girl managed to return back home and narrated her ordeal to her parents.
A village meeting was called by the victim’s family Friday over the issue, however, it was concluded without any decision.
Depressed over the action, the victim’s father lodged a complaint with Kalimela police. Acting on the complaint, a team of Kalimela Police conducted raids at different places immediately and arrested the accused.
Locals in the district have praised Kalimela Police for its rapid action. Police have registered a case under sections 376, 457, 363 of IPC and section 6 of POCSO Act against the two accused for the crime.
