2 ‘pimps’ arrested after raid on hotel

Jharsuguda: The town police arrested two alleged pimps in connection with a sex racket that was busted at a hotel in Beheramal in this district a week ago.

The two were identified as Purnachandra Swain (45) of Bhadrak district and Gagan Patra (22) of Kuchinda.

The hotel was raided June 17. The customers and the pimps had managed to escape from the scene while cops had detained two Bengali girls, a young couple and the hotel owner during the raid.

Since then, the police were on the lookout for the two. Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a raid at their hideout and made the arrest.

Purna Chandra worked as cook in the hotel while Gagan was a room boy. Police said the two wooed customers for the two Bengali girls engaged in prostitution. They circulated the pictures of the girls on social media platforms to woo customers.

They received hefty commission for arranging customers.

A case was registered and the two were produced in court. They were later remanded in judicial custody after the court rejected their bail pleas.

Curiously, the hotel owner who was detained during the raid was let off by cops.
