Nuapada: Movement of heavy vehicles came to a halt in different parts of this district Tuesday as the Nagarika Sachetan Manch, a local outfit, gave a 24-hour economic blockade call demanding immediate repair of the National Highway-353.
Hundreds of slogan-shouting agitators demonstrated with placards and staged road blockades at various places including Khariar, Komna, Udyanabandha, Kurumapuri, Sinapali and Boden in support of their demand. Trucks remained stranded in this stretch of the National Highway for several hours.
The blockade badly affected transportation of goods. However, private buses and other vehicles were exempted from the purview of the protest and they ran as usual.
The protesters demanded that the National Highway be repaired immediately for smooth flow of heavy vehicles. “If the administration fails to do this, the agitation would be intensified, they warned.
