Kendrapada: A four-year-old girl suffered severe burn injuries after accidentally falling into a utensil containing boiling water at Jagannath Upper Primary School in Charigaon village under Nikirai police limits in Kendrapada district, police said Thursday.
The victim, Debanshi Das of Kadaligorada Sahi, sustained serious burns to her back and abdomen in the incident that occurred Wednesday. She was initially admitted to the Kendrapada District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to Sishu Bhawan in Kataka for advanced treatment. According to Anganwadi worker Itishree Parida, Debanshi had entered the school kitchen along with her grandmother while food was being prepared.
She accidentally fell into a utensil containing boiling water meant for cooking rice. A cook immediately rescued the child and she was rushed to the hospital. The incident triggered resentment among parents and local residents, who demanded action against those responsible for the incident.
School headmaster Motiur Rahman said the Anganwadi had a separate kitchen and the child had entered the school kitchen accidentally.
Kendrapada CDPO Sujata Tripathy said an inquiry team had been constituted to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident and appropriate action would be taken based on its findings. The administration is bearing the medical expenses of the injured girl, she added.
