The five were produced in court and later remanded in judicial custody after the court rejected their bail pleas. The murder was the fallout from a previous enmity between the deceased and the main accused, it was learnt.
According to police, Prakash had decided to eliminate Sanyasi as the latter had insulted and assaulted him during Ganesh Puja celebration in 2015. Even after two years, he carried the grudge and kept an eye on Sanyasi’s whereabouts.
As per the plan, the five attacked Sanyasi with iron rods and wooden planks while he was standing near his house August 3, 2017 night. Assuming he was dead, they fled leaving him in a pool of blood.
Family members rescued Sanyasi and admitted him to Hinjilicut government hospital from where he was shifted to Berhampur-based MKCG Medical College and Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries.
Police registered a case based on a complaint by Sanyasi’s father and arrested the five from Bolangir, Kolkata and Vishakhapatnam. PNN
