Joda, Feb 10: Mines officials and police seized about 70 tonne of illegally extracted iron ore from a place behind a luxury hotel here Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, deputy director of mines, Joda circle, Satyananda Sahu directed his staff to conduct a raid. A team comprising mines inspector Srikant Mohant, Pitambar Mohant, Subhendu Samal, Jogendranath Kuldi along with Joda IIC Saroj Mohapatra and sub-inspector Manoranjan Bisi raided the place at Bansapani area. They seized about seven truckloads of iron ore stocked behind the hotel. However, no one has been arrested.
Forest department officials and the police had seized about 20 tonne of iron ore from the same area a few days ago. The seized iron ore was estimated at Rs 2 lakh.
