Bhubaneswar: After winning gold at the World Skills 2019 for water technology, S Aswatha Narayana of CV Raman Engineering College returned to the Capital city Friday. He created history by becoming the first Indian to win gold at World Skills competition in Kazan city of Russia.
After arriving at the airport, Narayana said that “Winning the medal for India is a proud moment for me and participating in the event was a great learning experience.” He thanked his parents for their hard work and for helping him achieve success.
About the theme for which he won the gold medal, he said: “Water is a critical resource on the planet, so it is important that we have skilled jobs in the water treatment sector. The skill is related to operation of water treatment plant.”
“It’s important because in the near future we are going to run out of potable water. Hence skill in water technology to which water treatment sector is related and the skill is related to operation of water treatment plants is necessary,” he added.
Narayana said that water technology is the new buzz and very soon more and more people will be thinking about it. When industry comes forward things happen, he added.
The Indian team also bagged one silver and two bronze medals at the event. It has been the country’s best performance since it first participated in the event in 2007.
While Narayana, 25, won the gold medal in Water Technology, Pranav Nutalapati, 17, from Karnataka, won silver medal in Web Technology and Sanjoy Pramanik, 21, from West Bengal and Shweta Ratanpura, 22, from Maharashtra, won bronze medals in Jewellery and Graphic Design Technology respectively.
Narayana said that his passion for industrial automation introduced him to water technology and expressed his gratitude to his faculty for his achievement.
