‘Yaas’ updates: Naveen Patnaik directs senior IAS officers to monitor preparedness

Bhubaneswar: The Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Monday directed senior secretaries of state departments to supervise preparedness, response and relief operations in the cyclone-prone districts.

The senior IAS officers, directed to look after cyclone preparedness in various districts, include Hemant Kumar Sharma for Kendrapara, Saswat Mishra for Jagatsinghpur, Vir Vikram Yadav for Bhadrak, Vishal Dev for Balasore and Suresh Vasisth for Mayurbhanj.

Notably, squally wind with speed reaching 50 to 60km/h gusting to 70km/h prevailing over east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea has been forecasted by IMD regional centre here.

It is very likely to increase further becoming gale wind with speed reaching 70km/h to 80km/h gusting to 90km/h over major parts of central Bay of Bengal from May 24 forenoon for subsequent 12 hours and would decrease gradually thereafter, the IMD forecast stated.

Squally wind with speed reaching 40km/h to 50km/h gusting 60km/h is very likely to prevail over North Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha-West Bengal coasts from May 24 evening.

It would increase gradually becoming 50km/h to 60km/h gusting to 70km/h from May 25 evening. It would further increase becoming gale wind with speed of 60km/h to 70km/h gusting to 80kmp/h from May 26 early morning over northwest Bay of Bengal and along and off West Bengal and north Odisha coasts.

It would gradually increase further becoming 90km/h to 100km/h gusting to 110km/h from May 26 morning and increase thereafter becoming 160km/h to 170km/h gusting to 190km/h at the time of landfall till May 26 afternoon.

Squally wind with speed reaching 55km/h to 65km/h gusting to 75km/h is likely over north interior districts of Odisha, during May 26 evening to May 27 morning.

Sea conditions will be rough to very rough over Andaman Sea and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal May 24, high to very high/ phenomenal over major parts of central Bay of Bengal, North Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha-West Bengal coasts during May 24 to May 26.

The fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea areas of central Bay of Bengal from May 24 to May 25 and into North Bay of Bengal along and off Odisha coast from May 24 to May 27, 2021.
