Chandbali: Police rescued a man and his son, who were abducted from Nuagaon village under Bansada police limits in Bhadrak district over a ransom of Rs 10 lakh Sunday, from Balasore Monday evening.
According to reports, the abductors held the duo –Birakishore Samal and his son Dipti Samal – hostage at Basudevpur area. Later, they were shifted from Soro and then to Balasore fearing that the police were tracking them.
However, when the abductors learnt that the SP had formed a special team to nab them, they fled leaving the father and son in Balasore. On receiving information, the police team rescued the two and left them in their village. Meanwhile, a probe was launched and a manhunt was launched to nab the abductors.
While the reason of the abduction remained unclear, it is suspected to be the fallout of a failed business deal. Some reports say that the kidnapping was masterminded by the former’s daughter and her in-laws for a ransom of Rs 10 lakh.
According to sources, Samal and his son had launched a fisheries feed (feed for prawn hatcheries) business after taking a loan from a Balasore-based financier. However, the business suffered loss and they failed to repay the loan.
The in-laws of Samal’s daughter, Mini Nayak who were partners in the business, were forced to pay the dues. This infuriated them, so they decided to recover the due amount from Samal.
Samal had paid Rs 1.5 lakh and had promised to pay another Rs 10 lakh in a month’s time. However, after a month lapsed, Mini and her in-laws allegedly abducted Samal and his son to recover the amount, it was alleged.
A probe is on; police said adding that the abductors would be arrested soon.
