Digapahandi: A baby crocodile that got caught in fishing net has been rescued and relocated Sunday morning, thanks to the efforts of the fisherman and the local forest officials.
Santosh Sahu, a fisherman of Sankarkhali village under Khamarigaon panchayat of this block in Ganjam district, had gone fishing in a pond near the village.
Unfortunately, the 4-ft long reptile got stuck in the net. Unable to decide what to do with the reptile, Sahu alerted the Digapahandi forest officials.
Soon, forest ranger Paramanand Panigrahy, forester Sitaram Patra and forest guards Nilamadhab Jena, Muralidhar Nayak and Niranjan Pradhan reached the village and rescued the crocodile from the net. Later, the officials took the reptile and released it at Godahad dam in the area.
“The reptile was around three years old. It accidentally got caught in the net. We have released it in the dam,” said Panigrahy.
