Kesinga: In view of the rising COVID-19 cases, Balsi village under Kesinga block in Kalahandi district has been declared a ‘Containment Zone’. The restrictions would be there in place from April 30 to May 6.
An ASHA activist from Balsi village who had tested positive for COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment at a COVID Care Centre breathed her last Friday. The deceased has been identified as Champa Shikha (38). She was one of the four critical patients of Balsi village who were shifted to the COVID Care Centre.
Kalahandi district’s COVID toll, meanwhile, has gone up to 41.
According to Health department sources, Balsi panchayat currently has 106 active cases of COVID-19 while the namesake village accounts for 81 of those. While the three critical patients are undergoing treatments at a COVID Care Centre, the rest are in isolation.
Kesinga block development officer (BDO) Prafulla Kumar Adu, after consulting with sarpanch Chudamani Majhi declared the Balsi village a ‘Containment Zone’.
The administration is creating awareness among the villagers regarding the dos and don’ts while residing within the ‘Containment Zone’. Residents of the village are mostly staying indoors giving it a deserted look.
Notably, Kalahandi district Friday reported 195 new cases of COVID-19. With this, the district’s caseload has gone upto 11,721. Among them, 8,376 patients have recovered while the number of active cases stands at 3,305.
