Raisuan: The central government claims outstanding performance in rural electrification, but there are many villages in Bansapala block of Keonjhar that are deprived of power.
People have to live in the dark while students have to study in the light of oil lamps.
Take the example of Patapani village in Phuljhar panchayat under Bansapla block.
A villager lamented, ”As night falls, we have to live in fear of elephants. Our children study under oil lamps. After sunset, venturing out of houses is frightful.”
Locals also alleged that all villages in the area have been electrified, but they have been waiting for years to get power.
Some people have even started cheating locals by taking Rs 300 to Rs 400 from them promising electricity.
Villagers demand that the district administration meet the basic need of electricity.
