Berhampur: Marking Mother’s Day this Sunday , the Berhampur police launched a special mobile unit for women in what is claimed as a step towards women empowerment and to provide them security in a more effective manner.
The scheme was inaugurated by women and child development minister Prafulla Samal under the ‘Swayam Siddha’ programme. He said, “The initiative will not only empower women, but also give them an opportunity to protect their rights.”
The special unit, comprising police personnel and representatives from NGOs, will also visit houses to spread awareness on women safety.
Also present at the event was food supplies minister Surya Narayan Patro, Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra and additional SP Trinath Patel. Patel said, “Under the programme, a special mobile van named as ‘Surakhya Rath’ will be launched.
The van will visit all the panchayats and wards to hear the grievances of women and take up matters for investigation on a priority basis.”
