Keonjhar: In a major breakthrough, the Jagatpur police busted a bike-lifting gang and, with the help of Keonjhar police, seized as many as 33 bikes in raids Monday .
Acting on a tip-off, a police team arrested four persons from Keonjhar. They have been identified as Viku alias Sheikh Anwar, Nihar Ranjan Behera, Prakash Kumar Sahoo and Jagabandhu Gochhi. Meanwhile two others of the gang are still on the large.
A case was registered and the two were produced in court. During interrogation, the two admitted that they were lifting bikes from different parts of Cuttack city, mostly from shopping malls and other crowded places. They did so by using duplicate keys.
The gang would lure customers to sell the stolen bikes cheap in other parts of the state. “They used to sell Hero Honda motorcycles for as low as Rs 5,000 and Pulsar or CBZ Extreme for Rs 10, 000”, a police officer said.
Police suspect the involvement of many more persons in the racket. A case was registered and the four were produced in court.
