G Udayagiri: A severe cold wave has gripped the G Udayagiri area in Kandhamal district as temperatures continue to fall, affecting normal life of the residents.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, the minimum temperature in G Udayagiri was recorded at 4.4°C at 8am Sunday. The minimum temperature stood at 5.4°C Saturday. Government data show that several locations in Odisha reported low temperatures, with Semiliguda at 6.1°C, Rourkela at 7.2°C, Daringbadi at 7.5°C, Jharsuguda at 7.6°C, and Phulbani at 8°C.
The intense cold wave has left residents shivering as they are seen warming themselves around roadside fires in the neighbourhoods and market areas. Young people, meanwhile, engage in morning exercise to stay active and cope with the cold while also enjoying the winter chill.
Tourist footfall has increased across various natural attractions in the region. Locals have renewed their demand for the construction of eco-cottages near Sirki Eco Park to boost tourism.
