Kamakhyanagar: Unrest griped Kamakhyanagar College after bombs were hurled on the premises during a clash between two groups of students Saturday.
A student, Sangram Nayak of Plus III final year Arts, and his friend Sanjiv Nayak, an outsider, sustained critical injuries. Police rushed to the spot and kept a close watch on the unfolding situation.
While no exact reason of the bomb attack was known, many believed that the attack was over previous enmity between two students’ groups.
The incident occurred when Sanjiv came to drop Sangram at the college. Some youths carrying crude bombs and guns attacked them. They caught hold of Sangram and hit his head with a cemented tile before hurling bombs.
The two were rescued and rushed to the Kamakhyanagar sub-divisional hospital. They were later shifted to the district headquarters hospital.
Sources said a college student with the help of five anti-socials attacked Sangram and Sanjiv while they were on their way to college.
Meanwhile, Sangram’s friend claimed that the anti-socials were trying to kidnap him as he was one of the candidates for the upcoming student union polls.
A police team reached the college and a probe was launched. “We have identified the students who are behind the incident and will arrest them soon,” IIC Gyanaranjan Samal said. No complaint has been filed yet but the matter is being probed from all angles, he added.
Principal Arabindakanta Ray said he rushed outside after the explosion and found the student injured.
