Bhubaneswar: The state government Thursday asked the state Crime Branch (CB) to expedite the probe into alleged misappropriation of `50 lakh in the directorate of family welfare (FW) functioning under Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) department.
H&FW Secretary Pramod Kumar Meherda has written to the CB ADG Santosh Kumar Upadhaya in this regard. According to sources, family welfare deputy director Rabindra Kumar Mishra has allegedly misused his power and issued cheques worth about `50 lakh violating rules.
A case has been registered against Mishra for misappropriation of government money. An inquiry report of CB additional SP has also been submitted to Chief Secretary in November last year. However, the CB later stated that the signatures of Mishra, put on the cheques, were too limited as a result they could not identify.
Thereafter, the specimen signatures been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Kolkata for further examination. But, the CFSL, Kolkata is yet to submit its report as a result of which criminal involvement of Mishra and others could not be established, Meherda said.
“As this is a case of major fraud, you are requested to kindly expedite the matter and inform the H&FW department the result of investigation at the earliest to take further action in the disciplinary proceeding framed against Mishra,” the health secretary added.
