Kendrapara: A local boy became the state topper by securing 85 per cent in vocational stream of Plus II examinations, results of which were announced Saturday.
Sourav Kumar Barik, (17), son of Prakash Chandra Barik and Puspalata Barik of Jantilo village in Kendrapara block, bagged 510 out of 600 marks and emerged topper in the state. Prakash and Puspalata were overjoyed at their son’s success. Sourav was a student of Kendrapara Government Vocational Junior College.
“Though the road to success in a CHSE vocational course is not easy, the iron determination of Sourav made him successful,” said Puspalata.
“There is no shortcut to success. If you have a strong will then for sure you will achieve success,” an elated Sourav said.
He has dedicated his success to the Almighty, his family and his lecturers. Sourav said that his father inspired him and his ailing mother motivated him. “The effort of my parents to make me do better made me study 6 to 8 hours a day,” he added.
“Hard work, thorough study of textbooks and proper guidance would be the key to success for students preparing for examinations. My dream is to become an Army officer,” Sourav said.
“We are proud that our boy secured the highest mark in the vocational stream. Sourav is an example for rural students,” said Chhitaranjan Behera, sarpanch of Bhagabatpur gram panchayat, who felicitated Sourav.
