City ready to make mothers feel special today

post news network, Bhubaneswar, May 9: The 19th century English satirical novelist William Makepeace Thackeray in his magnum opus Vanity Fair, famously stated, “Mother is the name of God in the lips and hearts of the children”. The words seem to be more potent Saturday, on the eve of the Mother’s Day, to be celebrated world over Sunday; more so because on that day every son and daughter tries to do something special for his/her mother. Orissa POST spoke to some of the residents of this city to know about their plans to celebrate the special day.

Smruti Shikta Mohanty, who has recently completed her post graduation, said that Mother’s Day was the perfect day to show the love and appreciation to the most important lady in her life and treat her like a queen. “For me each day is Mother’s Day because it’s not that we should respect our mothers only on Mother’s Day and not on other days; Mother’s Day just adds zing to the day. Every year I and my elder sister give something special to our mother and tell her how much we love her. This year my sister is not with me, but that takes nothing away; we did come up with a solution. My sister is working in Bangalore and she has sent a beautiful sari and I have purchased a set of bangles that goes well with the sari. I will give those to my mother tomorrow,” she said.

Rasmita Padhy, a PG student said, “Ma gave us life and the first word that we uttered was also ma; so it is really special to celebrate the day. This is a great day and every year I do something special for my mother. Though this time I am away from home, but I would call her up to wish her. I am also planning to purchase a gift for her.”

Priyanka Kumari, mother of a two-year-old boy said, “I always wish my mother on Mother’s Day. I used to cook a special dish for her when I was not married. Now I am a mother myself and understand how it feels to be a mother. This time I am going to give her a surprise treat and a gift. Everyone should do something special for his/her mother, who never thinks about herself and always worries for the well being of her children. Doing something special for her will make her feel special.”

“God created a person with His own hands; crafted her with kindness. He nurtured her with love and sent her down to the earth, to give love to us. She is our mother. Everybody loves his/her mother but never shows it to her. I think we should tell her how we feel about her. Celebrating it may be a western concept, but is one of the best ways to express our love for our mother,” said Subhashree Sathpathy, a first year BSc student.

“On this Mother’s Day I am planning to take my mother out and spend quality time with her. She is always busy taking care of us, so I thought to give her a break from her routine work and make her feel special,” said Manisha Rai, a working lady.
