Bhubaneswar: To reconnect the younger generation with the traditional joy and cultural heritage of kite flying during Makar Sankranti, ORMAS and Mission Shakti will organise a special kite show at the Sisir Saras–2026 fair Wednesday.
The kite show will be held from 4pm to 5pm, when the sky is expected to come alive with colourful kites showcasing both traditional and modern designs. Special balloon kites shaped like birds and animals are likely to be a major attraction for children.
Keeping public safety in mind, organisers have announced that no manja (glass-coated string) will be used this year, ensuring a safe and eco-friendly celebration.

Earlier in the day, from 2pm to 4pm, a kite-making workshop will be organised to promote the art of traditional and creative kite crafting. Children and youth will receive hands-on training and will later fly the kites they create themselves. Based on their skills, selected participants will take part in a kite-flying competition scheduled for Thursday.
Welcoming the initiative, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water & Rural Development Minister Rabi Narayan Naik said the Odisha government remains committed to preserving and promoting the state’s rich cultural traditions. He appealed to residents of the Capital to participate in Sisir Saras and celebrate Makar Sankranti with joy and enthusiasm.
The minister added that increased footfall at the fair would boost sales of rural products and help spread festive cheer to villages across the state.
Popularly known as the ‘Mini India Fair’, Sisir Saras showcases not only Odia culture but also diverse traditions from across the country. As part of this cultural exchange, Assam’s Bihu folk dance will be performed at the fair Wednesday evening.
Meanwhile, the fair continues to witness heavy crowds at food stalls, handicraft and handloom outlets. Live demonstration counters, where visitors can create Sambalpuri jewellery, lac bangles and items made from sabai grass, have drawn particular interest from young visitors.
Notably, sales during the first three days of the Sisir Saras fair have crossed Rs 3.6 crore, with expectations of further growth in the coming days.
