Sundargarh: The Town Police are on the hunt for an anti-social, who opened fire on a constable near a beer parlour at Khamaripada Chhak here Wednesday night.
The injured constable, Soumendra Sethi, who sustained bullet injury on his neck, has been admitted at the Ispat General Hospital in Rourkela. His condition is stated to be stable.
Sources said, Krishna Gupta, an anti-social, was drinking beer with his two associates at the parlour. After drinking, they smashed empty glass bottles on the ground.
When some youths at the parlour asked them to stop such behaviour, it led to a heated exchange of words between both parties.
Later, Krishna and associates came out of the parlour. The constable, who was on night duty, tried to pacify both groups and asked Krishna to leave the area. But Krishna suddenly whipped a country-made revolver from his pocket and opened four rounds of fire on the constable and fled the area.
Hearing the gunshot, locals rushed to the spot and informed the Town Police. Police admitted Sethi to the district headquarters hospital from where he was shifted to the IGH in Rourkela.
Police have detained three brothers of Krishna and launched a manhunt to nab him.
