Bargarh: A day after a video clip featuring two sisters, showing injury marks of an assault by Nayapalli police went viral, a youth of Bargarh was beaten up by cops over parking his bicycle Saturday . The victim was Amit Sahu.
It is learnt that Amit had been to the local market for purchase of essentials. He parked his bicycle before a shop and headed for shopping. Some policemen spotted the bicycle and called Amit. Before Amit could understand why he was called, they began thrashing him in the market street in full public glare. Locals rescued him and rushed him to the district hospital (DHH).
Tension prevailed in the area after this incident. Local traders gheraoed the town police station and demand action against the errant cops. The locals also blocked the road for hours and shut the market in a protest action.
Amit’s mother later lodged a written complaint against the policemen. Based on this, a case was registered and a probe was initiated. Locals are sceptical whether any action would be taken against the cop.
