Bhubaneswar: In a yet another case of police apathy, an elderly person has been running from pillar to post to get justice for his son, Surjyakanta Bhoi, who was found hanging from the rear side of a truck near Venkateshwar School under Mancheswar police limits January 28.
Expressing dismay, the deceased’s father, Sadhu Charan Bhoi, a resident of Gobindapur Brahmin Sahi in Cuttack told the media that cops refused to accept his complaint and drove him away saying that his son committed suicide, whereas his son’s body was found under mysterious circumstances.
Bhoi has alleged that, his son, who earned a living as a daily labourer, was murdered by his brother-in-law over a family feud. According to the plaint, Surjyakanta had tied the nuptial knot with a girl of their area, but their marriage did not last long and they were separated.
The complainant alleged that his son’s brother -in-law had offered him a job at Bhubaneswar a couple of months ago. Later, he planned to terminate him and, taking advantage of his loneliness, the former accomplished his plan to eliminate Surjyakanta.
It is worth mentioning here that Surjyakanta’s body was found hanging in the backside of a truck, while his feet were touching the ground. The circumstance in which the body was found quashes the possibility of suicide, but due to lack of witnesses, police have registered a case of unnatural death.
The deceased’s father has alleged that as he belongs to the lower section of the society, the police do not have any interest in initiating a probe on the basis of his allegation. He said, “Instead of probing the case, police are in a hurry to close it without an impartial investigation.” Mancheswar inspector-in-charge Krushnaprasad Mishra said, “Preliminary investigation reveals that the deceased hanged himself in an inebriated condition. However, the truth will come to the fore after the autopsy report comes.”
