Sohela: In a tragic turn, a young couple committed “suicide” by hanging themselves from a ‘mahua’ tree after their extra marital affair was objected to by their parents and villagers at Grinjel village in Bargarh district.
The two hanged themselves Saturday night, it is suspected, while rumours also swirled that they were done to death.
The deceased were Ganesh Seth (20), a tractor driver, and a woman married to another man.
Seth worked as a tractor driver. He developed a relationship with the woman, mother of a four-year-old boy and a two-year girl. The families and in-laws objected to the relationship.
The two went missing since Saturday evening. Family members lodged a ‘missing’ complaint with the police. It was later that the bodies were found hanging from a tree in the forests near the village.
Rumours did the rounds that the couple might have been killed by some villagers over their extramarital affair. Locals demanded a probe. “The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
The exact reason for the deaths will be ascertained after the arrival of the autopsy report,” police said.
