Kakatpur (Puri district): Forest officials Wednesday rescued a deer from near the local block office while it had strayed in there in search of food and water. The rescue was done at Astarang village well in time before it fell prey to stray dogs that came barking at the herbivore.
In a bid to save its life, the animal jumped the block office boundary and headed for the office premises. Locals alerted the forest officials. They came in fast. To its luck, the deer had escaped from the dogs without any injury. With the help of locals, forest officials took the animal to the local veterinary hospital for a check-up.
The animal was released in the Sahan reserve forest near Astarang village, Ranger Subash Pradhan said.
