Dhenkanal girl alleges sexual harassment

Parjang:  The Class IX girl, who was abducted December 29, from a village of Mahabirod outpost near Parjang in Dhenkanal district, alleged that the abductors sexually abused her in a statement Friday to the Magistrate alleged that she had been sexually abused.

Mahabirod police have arrested Akshay Naik, a driver of Tampei village in connection with the case. He is from Kankadahad block. The mastermind of the plot being a minor, he has been he has been produced in a juvenile court.

“The investigation is going on. Another accomplice who is still at large will soon be apprehended,” said sub-divisional police officer Suprasanna Mallick.

According to police sources, the incident occurred when the victim was travelling in a bus. As she felt urgency to attend nature’s call, she asked the vehicle to stop and got down. She went to a desolate place to relieve herself, but, by the time she returned, the bus had left.

Later, the helper of the bus came on a bike and promised to take her back to the bus. Believing him, she boarded the bike. However, the helper, instead of taking her to the bus, took her to a secluded place near an Aashram school.

After reaching the school, the helper called up one of his accomplices and forcibly took her deep inside a nearby jungle. Later the driver joined them and the trio took turns on her.

They then dumped her with her eyes, hands, mouth gagged and tied near Dangapal High School December 31. However, before escaping from the spot, they untied her hands and threatened of dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone.

She went straight to a relative’s house. Later, on being informed, her family members reached there and took her to their house January 15.

After the incident, the victim had stopped going to school fearing social stigma. When she was pestered by her family members, she narrated the matter to them who then lodged a complaint. Police registered a case under POCSO Act and have so far arrested the minor boy and the driver of the bus.
